He Has Won

Because your gracious love is better than life itself, my lips will praise you. {Psalm 63:3}

My lips will praise You.

Because Your love is better.

Better than life itself.

I’ve found myself praising God more than usual lately. Praising Him for the good things He is doing. But also praising Him for the painful, confusing, and difficult things that He has allowed to come to pass in this season. Praising Him for the persecution we face. From old friends. From family members. From a world who really doesn’t understand what the big deal is about this Jesus that we have given our lives to. Persecution. The Bible says that those who are in Christ should expect to be misunderstood and hated for their faith. In 2 Timothy 3:12, it states that everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ will be persecuted. So, we praise Him for that, too.

I’m sure those that misunderstand would really like to know what’s ‘gotten into me’ these past few years. Why have I changed? Why do I think I’m ‘better than others’? Yes, I’m sure it would be a good thing for me to answer those questions.

What’s gotten into me?

Jesus.

Why have I changed?

Because of Jesus.

Why do I think I’m better?

I don’t. And I’m not. I’m a sinner same as you. I’ve just been redeemed by Jesus. And for that I will live my life radically for Him. I am forever different because I am now serving my Heavenly Father instead of my own flesh. And when that happens, change happens. It just does.

And more importantly, why am I praising Him?

Allow me to tell you a story:

There once was a girl named Heather.

She was lost, broken, and damaged.

Destined to live in a miserable pit of despair.

Always trying to perform, please, fit in.

To look exactly like the people around her who were doing things she didn’t really want to do.

Even if she told herself she did.

Left in bondage to sin, a toxic cycle that never satisfied.

She just knew that this was what she was created for, to live life so emptily like this.

Or, so she thought.

And then, one day, her very own Knight came riding in on His white horse of Glory, Majesty and Truth.

He picked her up in His Mighty Arms and held her tight.

The Knight rescued her.

He redeemed her.

He cleansed her and gave her a garment so white that she couldn’t take her eyes off of it.

And then He whispered to her, “My Child, you are Mine. I love you with an everlasting love. And you never have to be the girl that you were. You are a brand new creation in Me, and if you give Me your whole heart, I will treasure it forever.”

And the girl named Heather, gave her heart to the One who loved her before she was ever created.

And she was never, ever the same again.

And, of course, that’s only part of the Love Story that Jesus has written just for me. That is why I praise Him. Because He is worthy. And the good news is? There’s a Love Story that He has written just for you, too. There’s more than enough stories to go around, friends. He is a real, living, triumphant God, won’t you come to Him? Don’t think for a second that He won’t do for you what He did for me. This is what He does. He takes broken people, and makes them whole. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on Him. And once you give Him your whole heart, persecution will come. And when it does? You can confidently praise Him. Because HE HAS WON. He has the victory. Glory to God!
